skillBase update

This week, while trent was doing the design for the website, I was finding some tutorials about making a search engine database. There were a lot of it are very complicated but I try to understand every bits and pieces of the process. The first foremost process is it should connect to the database to get the data from the database. Afterwards it will select the table and row from database to find the specific skills that they typed in, then in their screen it would appear what they have searched. It looks simple but it gets complicated when putting it in code language. After quite sometime we were gonna plan ahead for our the next semester which will be added for the website.

start of building the website and database

One thing we should need of to work on our website is a web host and a domain name. I have a web host that we could use so the only thing we need is to register our domain name. I have a friend who has a web hosting service which is cheap as well and we have registered our domain to them. The web host has a lot of features that they provide. It has php and mySQL integration that is obviously what we need in order to work on our search engine website. It also has a phpmyAdmin, that is for putting up database.

We decided on our roles and my main role would most likely coding the database and integrating it to the website. It's gonna be a challenge but it's gonna be worth it in the end.

skillBase

After a few days of more discussion for our skill network, the name of the website was born. It's called skillbase. The feature of it is the search engine that's going to be implemented on  the website which students / lecturers could search a certain skill and it will show in the screen afterwards whose people who had those skills. The first thing I had in mind is that we're going to need a database. It will be the the base element of our whole skill networking website that would provide information to a lot of students who would use our tool. Here's some example of our designs that would possible be used for our website

skill network

After quite some time of discussion and debates about the project that we're going to make. We have decided to move on to disperse the whole idea of making a game after we have a discussion with our tutors. Our new idea is now about making a network that connects their skills just within the BCT area. We we're thinking that these connection could lead to a whole new level in the second part of semester. Determining these ideas, the concept is the same as making a social network. Social network in some part has many flaws and functions. They were used for socializing, music, games and professional backgrounds. In our case we're going to provide a skill related social network which people could find some help with other people by finding their skills and work together in a project. This is somewhat a big project for us but we're gonna decide, what are we going to put for the elements of our website.

Studio III Network

Our group was composed by Ke me and Trent. At first we were deciding for the project based on the concept of network. From what we understand about the definition of network, it's about connecting the with other people. It's like base on people's reaction it will affect on the others as well. We thought about making a game with options which in case if their going to put up a certain actions into other people, it might have a certain event might happen. It's sort of a butterfly effect whereas one thing could affect a whole entire world. It could be  a negative or positive effect but either way that's how the connection between timelines comes. It's a network of people that comes in between the timelines. We thought of making it in flash and the simulation is like a role-playing. The only downside to this is that there's not enough details that could conclude that there's a connection to the people. We still have a lot of things that we have to decide if this is a feasible thing to do for a project. If else we should move on and change our ideas.
